A member of the youth ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has this weekend been dealt a blow on the fitness front.
The player in question? Álvaro Cortés.
Cortés, for those not familiar with his name, is a 19-year-old central defender, who is currently plying his trade with Barca Atlètic.
Enjoying a fine campaign to date, the stopper was recently called up to first-team duties, for Barcelona’s La Liga trip to Celta Vigo.
Cortés was ultimately left to watch on from the bench for the 90 minutes, but his call-up in and of itself came as a deserved reward for his endeavours in 2024/25 to date.
In turn, it will mark a blow for club and player alike to hear that the youngster is in line for an incoming spell on the sidelines.
As per a report from Mundo Deportivo:
‘Álvaro Cortés will be out for two to three weeks due to an injury to the semimembranosus muscle of his left leg following medical tests.’
