News of the shocking car accident broke on Saturday, with images of Antonio's mangled supercar in a wooded area near Theydon Bois, Essex, sparking widespread concern. West Ham initially reported that Antonio was in a stable condition and able to communicate following the incident.
In a statement released on Sunday afternoon, the club provided a detailed update on Antonio's injuries, saying: "West Ham United can confirm Michail Antonio has undergone surgery on a lower limb fracture following a road traffic accident on Saturday afternoon. Michail will continue to be monitored in hospital over the coming days.

Following the news of his crash, there has been an outpouring of support for Antonio, with the Premier League stating: "The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the Premier League are also with Antonio, his family, friends and all at West Ham."
During Match of the Day coverage, Gary Lineker took a moment to pay tribute to the player. Former Reading team-mate Jobi McAnuff also sent his well wishes to the veteran star, writing on Instagram: "Thoughts and prayers to Michail's family."
This isn't the first time Antonio has been involved in a car crash. On Christmas Day in 2019, he crashed his Lamborghini into a front garden while dressed as a snowman.
Since joining the Hammers in 2015, Antonio has been a key player for West Ham, making a total of 323 appearances and scoring 83 times - playing a crucial role in their UEFA Conference League win in 2023.
