Leicester fans left stunned by £80k-a-week gem vs Brighton as one says he was the ‘best player…

Leicester came back from two goals down to snatch a late point against Brighton and Hove Albion at the King Power Stadium.

The Foxes looked bereft of ideas in the second half and when Yankuba Minteh made it two, following Tariq Lamptey’s wonder goal, it looked as though the game was dead.

But Jamie Vardy’s left-footed finish in the 86th minute completely flipped the game on its head and the Leicester frontman set up the equaliser in stoppage time, as Bobby De Cordova Reid tapped home.

A point for the hosts lifts them up to 15th place, five points above the drop zone heading into a busy festive period.

Fans were particularly impressed by one player who was the ‘best player again’.

Leicester fans blown away by Boubakary Soumare

Leicester fans took to X (formerly known as Twitter) after the game to hail midfielder Boubakary Soumare, who was exceptional yet again.

“Soumare our best player again,” @AA_LCFC posted.

“Special mention to Soumare these last few games. We’re finally seeing what he can do for us. Been so good on the ball and defensively, doesn’t stop running. Player,” @ashclarke10 said.

@jamesconnorlewi commented: “Soumare man what a player, he looks completely rejuvenated under RVN, immense yet again and winning that foul late on what a run, hell be a massive miss against Newcastle. Defence looks lightyears ahead of where it was only 2 weeks ago.”

@richDICKYhayes said: “Soumare is a different human surely.”

“Soumare, wow,” @lcfc_b added.

Soumare stats vs Brighton

Many are in full agreement that Soumare was the Man of the Match and his Sofascore statistics evince exactly why he should be.

90 minutes

78 touches

50/60 passes completed

9/14 duels won

3 tackles

1 interception

The Frenchman’s performance was summed up by his late surge forward to win City a free-kick in a dangerous position, which could’ve turned out to be the winner had Stephy Mavididi executed it correctly.

Soumare, who earns around £80k-a-week (per Capology), is out of contract in 18 months’ time, so perhaps the club should look at renewing it.
