Marc Cucurella forced into urgent Chelsea change after 'embarrassing' outburst

Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has been slammed by Jamie Carragher after he was forced to change his boots after Tottenham Hotspur took an early 2-0 advantage in the London derby.

Dominic Solanke scored the first on five minutes as he turned the ball home at the near post after an outstanding cross. It was two just six minutes later, and the goal forced Cucurella into a change.

In the build-up, the full-back lost his footing, and this would eventually lead to Dejan Kulusevski firing the ball home. As Spurs celebrated, Cucurella ran to the bench to change his boots and, while doing so, complained to coach Danny Walker about the boots he picked for the game.

Carragher, working as a co-commentator for Sky Sports, did not support Cucurella's complaints. "Cucurella's coming to the bench; don't blame anyone else - it's your own fault son," he proclaimed.

"Absolute schoolboy stuff. Embarrassing."

Cucurella had slipped already in the build-up to Tottenham's first goal, which made the change a necessity for the Spaniard. Since the change, things have got better for Cucurella, but perhaps not through his own doing.

Jadon Sancho followed up his first for Chelsea in midweek with his second for the club on 17 minutes. The winger did expertly well to cut inside from the left-hand side to fire the ball past Fraser Forster in the home goal.

Should Chelsea manage to come from behind to win this game, they would move four points behind leaders Liverpool in the Premier League table. Their match yesterday away at Everton was postponed due to adverse weather conditions.
