Premier League release statement after Chelsea star Moises Caicedo avoids red card vs Tottenham

Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo did not receive a red card because his challenge on Tottenham's Pape Matar Sarr 'lacked excessive force'.

The Blues and Spurs have contributed to an exciting first half at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium which the hosts lead 2-1 thanks to openers from Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski. Jadon Sancho gave the visitors hope on 17 minutes when his fine effort beat Fraser Forster.

Some of their supporters may have thought that they were going down to ten men when Caicedo looked to have caught Sarr with his studs. After the incident, Sky Sports commentator claimed that Caicedo's challenge was deemed not to have excessive force behind it.

The Premier League Match Centre then released the following statement: "VAR checked for a potential red card following a challenge by Caicedo on Sarr and confirmed the refereeā€™s call of no serious foul play." With Chelsea keeping 11 men on the pitch after that incident, they may feel they have a chance of rescuing a point or more in the second half in North London.

Should the Blues manage to pick up a victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium from a losing position they would firmly insert themselves into the Premier League title race. Chelsea would sit just four points behind league leaders Liverpool with a victory this evening.

Arne Slot's men had their game away at Everton postponed on Saturday after adverse weather conditions hit Merseyside. Earlier today, Arsenal slipped up as they drew 1-1 with Fulham at Craven Cottage.
