Fans have taken to social media to slam Arsenal forward Kai Havertz after his underwhelming performance in their 1-1 draw against Fulham. The two teams faced off in the Premier League clash at Craven Cottage on Sunday, December 8.
Raul Jimenez opened the scoring with a brilliant run and clinical finish in the 11th minute to put the hosts ahead. William Saliba equalized in the 52nd minute, with a VAR review showing he was onside. Late in the game, Bukayo Saka scored after being set up by Gabriel Martinelli, but his goal was chalked off after a VAR review (90').
Kai Havertz had a rather sub-par performance on Sunday; he missed a big chance, while his three shots on goal were off target. He was caught offside twice and did very little to threaten the Fulham defense.
The German forward got the assist for Saliba's goal, but that was hardly enough to appease the fans, who slammed him online with comments like these:
"Havertz with a world-class passenger princess performance today," a fan said.
"We aren’t winning anything with havertz upfront," another added.
"Havertz standing where Aubameyang and RVP stood," a third noted.
"Is Havertz even better than Giroud?" another wrote.
"Sick of Havertz, has no input at all," a fan claimed.
"Where was Havertz today, ghosting. Awful display," another wrote.
Martin Odegaard speaks after Arsenal's draw 1-1 against Fulham
Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard spoke to the press after their 1-1 draw against Fulham. Like Kai Havertz, the Norwegian midfielder struggled to impact the game in any meaningful way,
In his 79 minutes on the pitch, Odegaard created three chances for his teammates. However, he completed zero dribbles and was dispossessed four times. He also lost six out of the seven duels he contested.
After the game, Odegaard told Sky Sports (via football.london):
"We have to focus on ourselves. We don't care about the other teams. We did a lot of good things. We have to do more and put the ball in the box more times. Maybe be a bit more direct and aggressive. We could have won it in the end."
"It's a very long way to go. We've said hundreds of times we have to keep going game by game."
Arsenal currently sit in second place on the Premier League table, but they could end the weekend in third if other results don't go in their favor.
