Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Everton was called off on Saturday, yet this weekend is turning out to be quite a good one for the Reds.
Arsenal dropped even more points with a 1-1 draw against Fulham whilst Chelsea currently trail against Tottenham, with both results working in Liverpool’s favour in a huge way in their bid to win the Premier League title.
With Girona fans excited to take on Liverpool on Tuesday, the Reds have had an incredible weekend without even kicking a ball, with Arne Slot’s side also having a much-needed rest during a hectic December schedule.
Yet Jamie Carragher has now suggested Slot to something many would view as controversial.

Slot told to ignore domestic cup competitions to focus on winning the Premier League
Speaking on Sky Sports Super Sunday coverage, the former Liverpool defender made the unusual suggestion that Slot should forget about trying to win the League Cup and FA Cup with the Premier League in his hands.
Carragher said when asked about what his worries are for Liverpool in this title race: “My worry for Liverpool is that I hope the manager isn’t obsessed with winning a domestic cup. I’m like ‘get out of them’ in some ways.”
With Liverpool the favourites to retain their League Cup title and the FA Cup third-round coming up next month, many fans will be disheartened to hear of Carragher’s comments on throwing away two chances of winning silverware to focus on the Premier League.

And although winning the title would be huge for Liverpool, they should not scrap the League Cup or FA Cup in order to put all their eggs in the Premier League basket, especially with the season still relatively early on.

Liverpool need to spend in January so they can compete on all fronts
Dropping out of cup competitions to focus on the league is a mindset that sounds good in theory but almost never works out in practice, especially for a club like Liverpool who every season aim to win everything on offer.
And with the League Cup a real possibility again this season with the FA Cup and Premier League also on the line, the Reds should be looking to win everything out there, which will require spending in January to add members to the first-team squad.
Indeed, depth is needed regardless of where Liverpool are in the Premier League, and the Reds need to consider making the deals required to ensure that they can compete on all fronts and to end the season with as much silverware as possible.
