Marc Cucurella was the target of a brutal blast from Jamie Carragher

Jamie Carragher launched a brutal blast at Marc Cucurella after the Chelsea star cost his side two goals against Tottenham.

The Blues travelled to Spurs for a London derby on Sunday evening, but were remarkably two goals down within 11 minutes. Cucurella was at fault for both of them as the Spanish defender endured a dreadful evening.

Just five minutes in, he slipped while on the ball with nobody around him. Brennan Johnson nipped in and skipped over Cucurella's desperate leg flick before firing in a low cross which Dominic Solanke turned in.

Soon after that, Cucurella was left sprawled on the floor again when he slipped over. He was unable to clear, with Dejan Kulusevki carrying the ball across the edge of the box before firing into the near post.

Cucurella was left furious in the aftermath of Kulusevski's goal and charged over to the Chelsea dugout to change his boots. But his protestations drew short shrift from Carragher, who delivered a brutal verdict of the left-back.

"Cucurella's coming to the bench. Don't blame anyone else it's your own fault son. Absolutley schoolboy stuff. Embarrassing," Carragher said during his analysis of Kulusevski's goal on Sky Sports.

"He slips again, we just seen that. There he goes again. Look at him shrugging his shoulders like it's not his fault. Blaming the boots. Did he not do a warm-up?"

Former Premier League striker Clinton Morrison also put the blame squarely on Cucurella's shoulders. He told BBC Radio 5 Live: "It is brilliant. Cucurella is blaming his boots. Look at yourself, you are the professional player. But from Kulusevski, that is a brilliant finish."

Jadon Sancho did pull a goal back for Chelsea when he picked the ball up on the left before cutting inside. After setting himself up, the winger fired a shot into the bottom corner to cap off a thrilling opening 17 minutes.

While Carragher and Morrison blasted Cucurella, Arsenal legend Paul Merson was more sympathetic. He instead put the blame for Kulusevski's goal on Cucurella's team-mates for letting the Spurs star run across the box.

Merson told Sky Sports: "I feel sorry for him. He gives the ball away and Kulusevski picks it up. It's bad defending. Caicedo, it's the only thing he's done wrong. Cucurella, it looks like he kicks the back of his foot. He's 27, 28."
