Fans have taken to social media to slam Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella, whose two errors led to Tottenham Hotspur's early goals. The clash between the two London-based rivals is currently ongoing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The first Spurs goal came in the fifth minute after Cucurella slipped, allowing Brennan Johnson to steal the ball and drive into the final third. The winger provided a low cross for Dominic Solanke, who slotted home from just outside the six-yard box.
Only a few minutes later (11'), Tottenham added their second goal of the game, as Cucurella slipped once more. Spurs stole it from the Chelsea full-back and the ball came to Dejan Kulusevski, who powered it into the bottom corner from just inside the box.
Cucurella changed his boots after the second goal and even provided the assist for Chelsea's first goal, which came from Jadon Sancho in the 17th minute. However, fans slammed him online with comments like these:
"Cucurella changed his shoes ? Broke playing like he in a ice skating rink," a fan wrote.
"I’ve never seen anything like this 2 slips leads to goals. Feel sorry Marc Cucurella," another fan said.
"Cucurella with two Slippery assists," a third added.
"Cucurella has been Spurs' best player so far," another claimed.
"Did Cucurella not warm up on the pitch wearing those boots? Surely he would’ve known if he would slip all over the place," a fan said.
"what tf is cucurella doing," another wrote
"We are completely aware how important Sunday's game is" - Chelsea boss speaks ahead of Tottenham clash
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca spoke ahead of their clash against Tottenham, stressing the importance of the London derby. The Blues sit in third place on the Premier League table, after Arsenal drew 1-1 to Fulham and got one point ahead of them.
However, they will need to draw or beat Spurs if they are to return to second place. In his pre-match press conference, Maresca said (via the club's website):
"Hopefully we can give our fans a big day and they will enjoy it. We will prepare for the game thinking this will be a big game because it is a derby and it is Tottenham."
"But, at the end, three points against Southampton, three points against Aston Villa or three points against Tottenham, the number of points are exactly the same. But we are completely aware how important Sunday's game is."
After the three first-half goals, Cole Palmer drew the Blues level with a penalty in the 61st minute after Moises Caicedo was fouled by Yves Bissouma.
