Nottingham Forest star Chris Wood reacts after finding out he’s tied Alan Shearer’s record

For Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood, things couldn’t really be any better at the moment as he bagged his tenth goal against Manchester United on Saturday.

Wood is ageing like a fine bottle of red wine and there doesn’t appear to be any sign of him slowing down despite him turning 33-years-old at the weekend.

Forest signed Wood for £15 million from Newcastle amid a backdrop of criticism with many feeling that he wasn’t the striker that the club needed to establish as a Premier League outfit.

Wood has been given a new nickname this season by Shay Given and it seems as though the talisman simply can’t stop scoring when given chances in the Forest team.

The player is now firmly established as the club’s number-one striker and the hope wl be that he can score even more goals before the 2024/25 campaign is over.

It’s quite remarkable just how well Wood has done in the Forest team but with the backing of Nuno Espirito Santo, he will hope to keep repaying the faith shown in him by the gaffer.

Now, Wood has tied Alan Shearer’s record of being the top scorer in the Premier League for two different clubs – with the former striker holding records at Newcastle and Blackburn.

Wood has now got the record for both Forest and Burnley and after his goalscoring exploits against Manchester United, the striker reacted to getting himself in the same company as Shearer.

He told Optus Sport: “He’s a fantastic man and a great striker for both clubs he played for in the Premier League. It’s fantastic to get it for Burnley and for Forest and I will just try to keep scoring for as long as I can.”

Chris Wood now eyeing 100 club for Premier League goals

This might be a long shot but on current form, Wood will give himself half a chance at joining the 100 club when it comes to Premier League goals.

Wood is now 21 goals shy of making that group of players from the past and if he continues in his current goalscoring form, he will chip away at that this season.

Forest are weighing up a new deal for Wood and right now, it’s a complete and utter no-brainer for the Reds to act and get him tied down for the next couple of years.

Wood is a model professional and Espirito Santo has praised him in that respect, making the decision to preparer a new contract for him a very simple one indeed.
