The interesting detail on Marc Cucurella's boots as he crucially slips twice in Tottenham 3-4 Chelsea

Marc Cucurella got Chelsea off to a woeful start against Tottenham on Sunday.

The Spain international slipped under pressure from Brennan Johnson with just five minutes on the clock, allowing the Wales international to assist Dominic Solanke and put Spurs 1-0 up.

Amazingly, the Chelsea No.3 did it again just minutes later, slipping over to concede a throw under little pressure, which Tottenham took full advantage of through Dejan Kulusevski.

Marc Cucurella then raced over to the touchline with his arms outstretched, seemingly accusing the kitman of giving him the wrong studs before putting another pair on.

Have you EVER seen anything like that in the Premier League? 😳

However – before the change was made – an interesting detail could be spotted on his first set of boots, one that doesn’t exactly explain the slipping, but makes it quite comical nonetheless.

Marc Cucurella’s boots came with a warning

The £63m man wears a teaser edition of the PUMA FUTURE boots – which are set to be released to the public in early 2025.

In this day and age, new boot releases are hard to keep secret with social media rife, and PUMA paid reference to that with a message reading: “This boot might be leaked. We’re used to it. Don’t worry. Stay tuned.”

PUMA will most likely be heading back to the drawing board after Sunday’s London derby, as Cucurella hardly gave their new boot the best endorsement by holding his arms out to question them in front of millions.

While it does not serve to explain exactly why the 26-year-old kept falling over, it does provide some comical irony behind the situation, with the fabled boots genuinely carrying a warning message before they cost Cucurella dearly.

What Jamie Carragher said about Marc Cucurella’s boots during Tottenham 3-4 Chelsea

As aforesaid, Cucurella – who had his hair pulled by Jack Stephens last week, resulting in a unique red card – seemed to blame the Chelsea kitman for his two costly slips, which Jamie Carragher was not happy about.

Speaking live on commentary duty alongside Peter Drury, the 46-year-old said in the 11th minute: “Who is he blaming? He has nobody to blame but himself. Schoolboy stuff. Embarrassing. Look at him. It’s your fault, the boots you’ve given me (he is saying). Did he not do a warm-up?”

Spot on – Cucurella has nobody to blame but himself for gifting Tottenham two goals, and PUMA certainly won’t be happy with how their FUTURE boots were advertised by the defender live on Sky Sports.
