Jamie Carragher claims'embarrassing'Chelsea player was very'schoolboy'against Tottenham

Chelsea made a terrible start to their London derby against Tottenham Hotspur earlier.

Enzo Maresca‘s side quickly found themselves 2-0 down in the first half after Marc Cucurella slipped twice and some poor defending from Levi Colwill.

It did not take too long for Chelsea to get back into it after a fantastic strike from Jadon Sancho, but Maresca would have been fuming with his whole backline.

Cucurella, Colwill and Benoit Badiashile were all over the place in the first 45 minutes of the game.

Jamie Carragher slams Marc Cucurella

While Chelsea’s backline as a whole was poor in the first half against Tottenham, Cucurella was the main culprit because of his slippery feet.

After his second slip, the left-back shrug his shoulders as if to say it was not his fault, but Jamie Carragher disagreed.

While commentating on the game for Sky Sports, the former Liverpool defender said: “Cucurella’s coming to the bench, don’t blame anyone else — it’s your own fault son! Absolute schoolboy stuff. Embarrassing. He slips again.”

Marc Cucurella’s worst performance so far this season

Cucurella has been one of Chelsea’s most consistent performers during this campaign, but the 26-year-old and the rest of the Blues’ backline faced what was probably their most difficult 45 minutes of the campaign.

In the Spaniard’s defence, he did start to recover after his two costly errors and played the ball to Sancho before his beautiful goal.

Chelsea fans would have been frustrated with his involvement in Tottenham’s first two strikes, but they can cut him some slack after his previous performances for the club.

For example, he put in a really good display in the Blues’ 5-1 win against Southampton, with Stephen Warnock praising Cucurella after the game.

Cucurella and Chelsea’s backline will be hoping to put in a much better defensive display next Sunday when they take on Brentford in another London derby.

But before then, Chelsea face Astana in the Conference League in a match you would expect Cucurella to be rested in.
