Chelsea star Cole Palmer made Premier League history after scoring two penalties for the Blues in their 4-3 win against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, December 8. The England international has now scored the most penalties without missing in Premier League history.
Cole Palmer made his breakthrough in the 2023-24 season after moving to Chelsea and has continued his sublime form this season. With his two goals on Sunday, Palmer moved to 11 league goals this season, half of his tally from last season.
The Englishman's two nerveless penalties, the second of which was a panenka to put the Blues 4-2 up, made him a Premier League record holder. He became the player with the longest streak of penalties without a miss, having scored all 12 of his penalties in the league.
The former Manchester City man overtook City legend Yaya Toure, who scored 11 consecutive penalties in the league without missing. His goals helped the Blues to turn a 2-1 deficit to a comfortable 4-2 lead, setting the foundation for an important win.
Cole Palmer also become the Blues' most productive player in a calendar year with 39 goal contributions in 2024, breaking Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's record from 2001.
Chelsea down Tottenham to consolidate second place in Premier League table
Chelsea recorded their third consecutive victory against Tottenham Hotspur to move to within four points of league leaders Liverpool. The Blues claimed a 4-3 win over Spurs in the London derby, coming from two goals down to claim all three points.
Dominic Solanke opened the scoring for the home side after just five minutes, taking advantage of an error from Marc Cucurella. Spurs capitalised on another error by the Spanish full-back six minutes later, with Dejan Kulusevski firing home to put his side two goals up.
Jadon Sancho pulled one back for Chelsea after 17 minutes, scoring in a second successive game for the Blues. They drew level in the 61st minute after Moises Caicedo won a penalty, which Cole Palmer scored.
Captain Enzo Fernandez put the side ahead for the first time in the game in the 73rd minute with a fine half-volley from inside the box. Cole Palmer scored his second of the game from the penalty spot in the 84th minute after winning the penalty himself. Heung-min Son pulled one back for Spurs in the second-half stoppage time minute to set up a tense finale, but Chelsea held on to claim all three points.
