'So calm': Jamie Redknapp hails Chelsea player as an 'absolute joy' after 4-3 Tottenham win

Chelsea made it five straight wins across all competitions in thrilling fashion against Tottenham this weekend.

Chelsea came from two goals behind on Sunday afternoon away to Spurs to win 4-3 in the Premier League showdown.

Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski put the hosts into an early two-goal advantage, something which wasn’t helped by Marc Cucurella’s footwear as he slipped in the build up to both goals.

Jadon Sancho halved the deficit soon after with his first-half goal. In fact, Chelsea fans raved about Sancho’s performance against Spurs.

Cole Palmer then scored twice from the penalty spot in the second period, plus Enzo Fernandez added another goal to his tally this season. Heung-Min Son’s late stoppage time goal did set up a nervous finish, though.

Jamie Redknapp in awe of Cole Palmer

Straight after the full-time whistle of Chelsea’s win over Spurs, Jamie Redknapp waxed lyrical about Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.

Redknapp explained on Sky Sports’ Main Event channel that the 22-year-old Blues attacker is so effortless on the pitch.

He commented on Palmer (6:25pm, 8 December): “To watch this guy play football is an absolute joy. There’s not many like him. He’s just so cool, so calm on the ball. The things he does, he makes the game look so easy. The Panenka penalty. The little bits and pieces he does when he gets it. Everything goes into slow motion when he gets it.”

Palmer admits he’s working on improving his right foot, but it was his wand of a left foot that scored two spot-kicks to help win at Spurs. In particular, he dinked one penalty straight down the middle of the goal to highlight his confidence.

Cole Palmer magical against Tottenham

On top of his two penalties, Palmer was instrumental throughout the London derby victory this afternoon.

FOTMOB data has provided the individual statistics from Palmer’s display against Spurs:

Match rating – 9.4

Minutes played – 89

Goals – 2

Total shots – 4

Successful dribbles – 4/5 (80%)

Touches – 69

Accurate passes – 33/42 (79%)

Chances created – 4

Accurate crosses – 3/6 (50%)

Palmer, who’s now scored 11 goals in 14 league appearances this season, continues to go from strength to strength. It’s a big boost that the attacking midfielder is generally rested in cup competitions, too.

Palmer played down title talk for Chelsea earlier this month, but it’s going to become increasingly harder to do so with this run of results. As it stands, they’re four points behind current leaders Liverpool, who have played a game less.
