Arne Slot’s Liverpool are on the verge of agreeing a new deal with their attacking mainstay Mohamed Salah.
Mohamed Salah’s future has been a massive talking point as his contract at Liverpool is running. But, it seems there has been some major development in recent weeks and both parties are on the verge of reaching an agreement over a new deal.
According to a report from the Mirror, Salah is all set to pen a new two-year deal to bring an end to all speculations about his future. While both parties had different ideas heading into the negotiations, they have finally reached a common ground.
Once considered a Premier League flop following his spell at Chelsea, Salah has completely turned things around after returning to the English top flight on the back of a successful spell at AS Roma. He made the move to Liverpool back in 2017 and hasn’t looked back since.
The Egyptian international has done wonders for the Merseyside club helping them win all major titles. While he is already 32, Salah is still going strong as he has 15 goals and 12 assists in just 21 outings this season.
His future has been the talk of the town as his current deal runs out at the end of the season. There has been a significant amount of interest in his service from the Saudi Pro League for some time now. Having failed to sign him last summer, clubs from the Middle East were ready to offer him lucrative deals to move to Saudi Arabia once he become a free agent.
Salah to sign a new two-year deal
But, it seems they will have to wait for a few more years as contract renewal talks between Salah and Liverpool have seen some significant development in recent weeks. While the Egyptian international public hinted towards this being his final season at Anfield, he looks all set to pen a new deal.
A comprise has been reached between the Fenway Sports Group and the 32-year-old after months of negotiations. While Salah’s agent informed the club that he wanted a three-year contract, FSG were only looking to offer him a one-year deal. But, in the end, both parties have agreed on a two-year extension.
The money involved isn’t really a problem as Salah is already their highest-paid player with a weekly wage of more than £400,000. While the Liverpool owners were reluctant to offer a player over 30 a long-term deal, they have agreed to do so in the former Roma star case to ensure Arne Slot gets the desired firepower up top to build on the brilliant start he has had.
