Liverpool has now offered new contracts to Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk with all three key men inside the final year of their existing deals at Anfield.
According to The Athletic, Salah has now been sent an opening offer to extend his stay beyond next summer with the feeling being that the Egyptian — who has already scored 15 goals this season and provided 12 assists — wants to stay. He has repeatedly made it clear that this could be his last year at Liverpool but he remains in exceptional form.
A report in the Sunday Mirror this weekend claimed that a breakthrough had been made with Salah's representatives. However, this latest update suggests that there is still work to be done in negotiations with all three players, though offers have been tabled.
Liverpool is currently top of both the Premier League and the Champions League tables and Salah and Van Dijk, both 32, have been instrumental. Alexander-Arnold has spent some time on the sidelines but he too has been enjoying life under new head coach Arne Slot.
Changes behind the scenes and with Jurgen Klopp leaving meant that extending the contracts of some key players in the last year or so was not easy. New sporting director Richard Hughes was given the task of finding a suitable solution.
With Salah and Van Dijk excelling and Alexander-Arnold still potentially with the best years of his career ahead of him, tying down all three players should be a major priority. If Liverpool was to lose any of them for nothing, that would be a huge blow and would require substantial work in the transfer market to source a replacement.
Liverpool.com says: It would be a massive boost if the Reds could get all three players nailed down to extensions. If one gets announced, that could help set the bar for the others— which might explain why there has been a delay, with each waiting for news on the others.
