Ruben Amorim will drop£42m star for‘best player’in strongest Man United team

A Manchester United icon has claimed that Ruben Amorim will drop one £42 million star for the ‘best player’ in his strongest team.

Ruben Amorim has now taken charge of five Manchester United fixtures following his appointment as head coach last month.

There have been mixed results, with two wins, two defeats and one draw in that time. United currently sit 13th in the Premier League table.

The new head coach warned supporters that tough periods will come as the team adapt to his new-look system.

He has been able to rotate and assess the majority of the first-team squad in these first weeks as he identifies who fits the long-term vision.

The back three is extremely important in Amorim’s system and he started off by using Noussair Mazraoui and Lisandro Martínez on either side of Matthijs de Ligt.

Mazraoui has settled into that role extremely well and Martínez’s ball playing ability seems crucial at this point.

However, Owen Hargreaves believes that De Ligt, the £42 million summer signing from Bayern Munich, will not be in Amorim’s strongest team.

Leny Yoro is expecting to come into the side once he is fully fit. He has started once and come off the bench another time since returning from injury.

But many are anticipating that he replaces Mazraoui, who Hargreaves believes has been United’s ‘best player’ this term. He instead thinks it will be the Dutch centre-back who comes out of the backline for the teenager.

“I was surprised Mazrouri didn’t play, I think he’s been Man United’s best player this season, but he probably wanted to give someone else an opportunity,’ Hargreaves said after the defeat to Nottingham Forest on the weekend.

“Luke Shaw came back and now he’s back out, so he hasn’t been able to find a settled team.

“I do think his team in the end will be Mazraoui, Yoro, Martinez, I think that’ll be his back three.”
