What Chelsea star Sancho did to Tottenham corner flag as Arsenal theory emerges

Chelsea winger Jadon Sancho was spotted removing a corner flag at Tottenham, which some fans believe could be a dig at Arsenal's set-piece prowess.

The on-loan Manchester United forward put Chelsea back into Sunday's London derby after Enzo Maresca's team fell 2-0 down at Spurs on Sunday afternoon. Early goals from Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski put Ange Postecoglou's side 2-0 up.

But Sancho's fine finish set up a remarkable comeback, with Chelsea scoring three second-half goals to earn a thrilling 4-3 victory. The Blues are now up to second and are just four points off league leaders Liverpool, all be it having played a game more after Storm Darragh forced the Merseyside derby's postponement.

Supporters were quick to spot Sancho removing a Spurs corner flag before throwing it to the ground, a move which some fans took as being a dig at title rivals Arsenal.

The Gunners have scored 23 goals from corners since the start of 2023/24, more than any other team across Europe's big five leagues. Mikel Arteta's team have scored five more goals than Bayer Leverkusen in second and seven more than the next highest in the Premier League, Manchester City.

Some supporters have criticised Arsenal for their reliance on set-piece goals, comparing Arteta's side to Stoke City. Manchester United legend Dimitar Berbatov made the point on Prime Video Sport after his former side lost to the North Londoner's on Wednesday.

"As we joke, Arsenal are the new Stoke City, right? Depending on set pieces, which can give you the win, as it was today," he said.
