Manchester United are closely monitoring Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur target Patrick Dorgu ahead of the January transfer window, according to Sunday Mirror.
The Red Devils have had an underwhelming Premier League campaign. They are presently 13th in the standings with just 19 points from 15 games played.
The club have struggled with their defensive organisation and manager Ruben Amorim has already urged the hierarchy to land a ‘proper‘ signing for the left wing-back role.
It is now reported that United are muscling in on Dorgu, who has been on the radar of Chelsea and Spurs. They had scouts watching him in action last weekend.
The 20-year-old was recently crowned Denmark’s Young Player of the Year. He has his sights on leaving Lecce in 2025.
The Serie A outfit reportedly rebuffed approaches from Chelsea and Spurs for the £35 million-rated star last summer.
Dorgu would be a good signing for United
The youngster started off his Lecce career as a left-back. He made 34 appearances last season.
However, he has operated in multiple positions this term. The Dane has predominantly played on the right wing for the Italian side.
Dorgu has also featured from the left-back and left wing-back roles. Despite this, he has been superb on the defensive front.
He has won 6.4 duels per Serie A game this campaign with 1.5 clearances, 1.9 tackles and five recoveries on average.
Dorgu has also chipped in with three goals as a winger. His overall attacking and defensive attributes would be ideal for United.
Amorim has played Diogo Dalot as the regular left wing-back, but the Portuguese has struggled to offer any attacking presence.
Dalot did not complete any of his nine crosses against Nottingham Forest on Saturday and he was also caught out of position.
Dorgu would be a good fit with his young age and potential. It is left to be seen whether United will make an offer close to the price tag to persuade Lecce to sell him.
