Chelsea overturned a two-goal deficit at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to secure a 4-3 win against the Lilywhites on Sunday, December 8, and climb up to second place in the Premier League. Enzo Maresca's men are currently on a five-match winning streak across competitions and look like one of the most in-form teams in English football.
Five talking points from Chelsea's resurgence against Spurs:
#5 Enzo Fernandez is having a fine run of form
The Argentine midfielder is enjoying his best form since his £100 million switch from Benfica in January 2023. Fernandez has bagged three goals and six assists from his last six games for the Blues.
Fernandez was on the scoresheet against Spurs as well, putting away a left-footed half-volley in the 73rd minute. He made three recoveries and completed 48 out of 50 passes to help his side secure a memorable victory in the London derby.
#4 Jadon Sancho is proving his worth
Manchester United fans look away - Jadon Sancho is a fabulous player and the Red Devils could have made a mistake letting him go. The Englishman has been impressive for Chelsea since he arrived on loan with an obligation to buy.
Sancho has scored two goals and provided five assists in 11 appearances across competitions, including a fierce strike against Spurs on Sunday.
#3 Brennan Johnson continues to look good
We interrupt our scheduled Chelsea hype train to acknowledge the brilliance of a Tottenham player from this match. The Welsh forward has enjoyed a solid season with the north London side and looks set to be another fantastic player for the club.
Johnson bagged the assist for Spurs' fifth-minute opener, which was scored by Dominic Solanke, to take his tally to 10 goals and two assists from 22 games.
#2 Marc Cucurella had a shocking game
The Euro 2024 winner did not have a good game for Chelsea on Sunday and was directly responsible for Tottenham's two first-half goals. Cucurella lost the ball on both occasions after slipping and was made to pay by Spurs.
The Spaniard bagged an assist to help salvage his performance, but he was the weakest link in Enzo Maresca's side.
#1 Cole Palmer is the star everyone believes he is
In a just world, Manchester City would be within their rights to ask Chelsea for more money after Cole Palmer's brilliant performance on Sunday. The 22-year-old has been brilliant since he signed for the Blues, but he was transcendent against Tottenham.
Palmer created four chances in the game, completed 4/5 dribbles, and won 8/10 duels for the club in a dominant performance. He also scored twice from the spot and now holds the Premier League record for the most penalties without missing (12).
