Manchester United fans are reeling from the surprise of Dan Ashworth’s sudden exit from the club.

The Manchester United fans who want Ralf Rangnick
A figure whose reputation at Manchester United has grown with time is the man hired in 2021 as interim boss, Ralf Rangnick.
Rangnick was supposed to become a strategic consultant at the end of the season. But this didn’t happen, and he has been managing Austria since.
Following Ashworth’s exit, Ralf Rangnick became a big topic of discussion on social media, with several Manchester United fans pleading for him to be given the job.
One wrote: “@ManUtd bring Rangnick in as Sporting Director, please”, while another added: “Bring Ralf Rangnick home.”

A third tagged United’s investors, “@INEOS hire him please, bring back Ralf Rangnick as our sporting director.”
And a fourth urged: “I say we bring Rangnick back for the sporting director role. He can save us.”
Another fan wrote: “I’d take Rangnick back in a heartbeat. He saw through the dross,” with another agreeing: “Wouldn’t mind seeing Rangnick as Sporting Director to be honest!”
A further message read: “Bring back Rangnick. Make him the sporting director.”
More messages showed appreciation for the arguments for change Rangnick made during his time at Old Trafford.
One wrote: “As much as Rangnick should tell MUFC to ____ right off, I would happily take him as DOF. He always had the right mindset, the Glazers were just too stupid to realise it.”
Another added: “Get Rangnick in to oversee the open heart surgery he so rightly said was needed @ManUtd”.
Why Ralf Rangnick left Manchester United
Ralf Rangnick never got the opportunity to do the job he was best at, during his time at Manchester United.
His time in the dugout was supposed to be a bridge to get him into a key role behind the scenes, and it never happened.
Rangnick did not even get as far as meeting Erik ten Hag face to face. When the Dutchman was hired in 2022, he demanded ‘control’, amid fear Rangnick would interfere with recruitment rather than help.
It is clear with hindsight that United should have stuck to their guns and backed Rangnick, with Ten Hag given too much oversight on transfers, with funds wasted.
But at this time United were desperate to land Ten Hag, while Rangnick’s reputation had taken a battering by media that were too focused on his performance as manager.
