Arsenal consider transfer for £20m Premier League striker as defender attracts interest

Arsenal left Fulham disappointed after dropping two points

Arsenal lost ground in the Premier League title race after being held to a draw by Fulham on Sunday afternoon.

The Gunners had been in superb form since the international break, but were frustrated at Craven Cottage as the home side held on for a 1-1 draw. The result, coupled with Chelsea’s 4-3 win over Tottenham, saw Mikel Arteta’s side slip to third in the Premier League table, six points adrift of leaders Liverpool.

Arteta was left to rue the small margins that define top-flight matches after Bukayo Saka’s late header was chalked off by VAR for an offside against Gabriel Martinelli in the build-up. Arsenal brought Gabriel Jesus off the substitutes’ bench as they chased a late winner, but perhaps the firepower to get over the line.

Could they be tempted to make a move in the January transfer window for that missing player? Well, allow Mirror Football to take you through the latest transfer news and gossip.

Arsenal tempted by Calvert-Lewin

Everton are willing to sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin for £20million in the upcoming transfer window – and Arsenal could be among the suitors. The Sun reports that Calvert-Lewin is preparing to leave Everton, with his contract expiring in June, but could leave earlier if a bid arrives in January.

The club don’t want to lose the striker for nothing on a free transfer and will look for interested parties in January. Arsenal are reportedly interested along with West Ham, Newcastle and AC Milan, despite the fact he’s only scored twice in 14 games this season.

It seems unlikely that the Gunners would splash the cash on a striker who will be available for free come July 1. He will be able to speak to foreign clubs over a free transfer in the New Year.

Saliba committed to Arsenal

William Saliba scored Arsenal’s only goal at Fulham, converting Kai Havertz’s knock-down from close-range – and he isn’t going to leave the club any time soon.

Saliba told Mirror Football : "Yeah of course, I feel at home. I signed for the club five years ago but it's only my third season and I'm enjoying everything – the players, the staff and the fans. I feel at home so of course, why not?"

The 23-year-old Frenchman has established himself as Arsenal’s first-choice centre-back, alongside Gabriel Magalhaes, and is very happy where he is, despite rumoured interest from Real Madrid.

Interest in Kiwior

Saliba was partnered by Jakub Kiwior on Sunday, with Gabriel unavailable due to injury. The Polish international stepped into the void, but was at fault for Raul Jimenez’s goal at Craven Cottage.

His involvement has come at a good time, given Kiwior had been growing frustrated by the lack of game time this season. The start was just his second in the Premier League this season, following the 2-0 win over Manchester United in mid-week.

Mirror Football understands that Italian giants Napoli, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus are among the clubs interested in Kiwior. Arsenal rebuffed interest in the summer, with Bologna and Villarreal asking to take him on loan, and they are unlikely to let him leave in January either. His future will be reassessed in the summer.
