“What can they spend?” he told talkSPORT. “What can they do? They had to let Elliot (Anderson) go in the summer. They have money, but this is not a football club that can go out and spend £250million.
“When you look at the ownership you think why can’t they? Newcastle should be able to spend what they want. This is where FFP really falls down. How are Newcastle ever meant to get, and continue to challenge, in the European places if they can’t spend money?
“All they are is a better version of Mike Ashley’s (Newcastle). They’re 12th. Mike Ashley didn’t spend money… This football club can’t spend money. They’ve bought well but, for them to improve the club, they’re going to need to sell. How can that work?”
