Lilywhite Rose speculates wages needed for Tottenham to sign PL star who could cost £70m

John Wenham has speculated that Wolves star Matheus Cunha would want “his wages doubled” if he were to sign for Tottenham.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose expects that Wolves will want £70million for the Brazillian, despite speculation that a £40million bid could be accepted.

As reported by TBR Football [25 November], Tottenham and Manchester United are keeping an eye on Cunha. However, Gary O’Neil has been assured the forward will not be sold in January.

Therefore, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t think that a transfer is likely.

“Wolves will want double what they paid for Cunha,” Wenham said.

“Their obligation to purchase him from Atletico Madrid was worth up to £35million. Are Tottenham going to pay £70million for a non-homegrown striker?

“Cunha will want his wages doubled too. Therefore, I just don’t see Tottenham doing that sort of deal, as frustrating as it is for us as fans because I do think Cunha would improve us.”

Tottenham to miss out on Wolves star Matheus Cunha?

Cunha has been in fine form this season for Wolves, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in 14 Premier League matches. Therefore, it is no surprise that top clubs are keeping an eye on the 25-year-old.

However, he is likely to cost a lot, especially if a club want to sign him in January. While on paper Spurs should have the money to finance this kind of deal, ENIC have proven their reluctance to spend in the past.

As a result, it looks as though Ange Postecoglou and Spurs could miss out on this player.

However, if Daniel Levy were to shock everyone and sanction this transfer, it could begin to change public perception of him in North London, which isn’t exactly at an all-time high right now.
