I saw ‘outstanding’ Chelsea player send the perfect message off the bench in 4-3 win over Tottenham – opinion

It was all smiles in the away end of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Chelsea made it five wins in a row in all competitions after the international break.

Enzo Maresca led his side to a 4-3 win against their fierce rivals, with their belief and determination on full show as they came back from 2-0 down in the first 15 minutes.

The boss again named Moises Caicedo as the right-back in the side, and it is fair to see he didn’t show the best of him until the second half where he was moved to the middle of midfield.

Romeo Lavia was replaced at half-time after an elbow from Dejan Kulusevski which did not result in him being sent off just before half-time.

Malo Gusto impresses off the bench for Chelsea vs Tottenham

The Belgian came off at the break, with Malo Gusto coming on to play the traditional right-back role.

The Frenchman has been asked to play a new style this season, and for the most part has been impressing greatly. Jason Cundy has previously described Gusto as ‘outstanding’.

It was clear that he had not been dropped from the starting side due to his own ability, and more the fact that they want all three of their top midfielders starting.

However, Gusto has just sent the perfect message to Maresca with how he performed off the bench, and that he should still be considered for a regular starting role in the coming weeks.

With the issues not going away for fellow right-back Reece James, he has been called upon as the starting option for the majority of the last 18 months.

Few will have any complaints with how he has played as a whole, and an impressive 45 minute cameo will not do his hopes of starting next weekend against Brentford any harm at all.
