Barça Atletic coach urges Hansi Flick to notice 19-year-old winger – ‘I hope he gets a chance’

Barcelona youth team coach Albert Sanchez has expressed his hope that Dani Rodriguez, a promising 19-year-old, will soon have the opportunity to play with the senior team.

Rodriguez, who has been recovering from a long-term hamstring injury, is now showing his potential with strong performances, including scoring twice to help his team secure a 2-2 draw against Celta Fortuna’s reserve side.

Sanchez was asked about the possibility of Rodriguez moving up to the first team after his impressive display against Celta’s reserves, where he made an impact by coming on at halftime with the team trailing 0-2.

Sanchez stated that he is hopeful Rodriguez will get a chance with the senior squad, as that is the goal for players in the youth system. He praised Rodriguez for fitting the “Barça style” of play and emphasized the young winger’s potential.

“I hope Dani gets the chance, that’s what we’re here for. He’s a Barça-style winger. He has a lot of potential,” he told the press as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

Rodriguez himself shared his satisfaction after his two goals in the Celta Fortuna match.

Reflecting on his recovery from injury, he explained that it had been a challenging period, but he worked hard to come back in the best shape possible to contribute to the team.

“They have been complicated months, with a lot of work. I tried to come back as best as possible to be able to help the team. I’m very happy,” said the player.

It’s important to note that Barcelona managed to retain Rodriguez last summer, despite strong interest from Real Sociedad, his former club, and Athletic Bilbao.

These clubs were eager to secure his services, but Barcelona successfully renewed his contract until 2027.

This deal is seen as a strategic investment, with Rodriguez being viewed as a player who could make the step up to the senior team at any time.
