Opened on 8 December 2014 by Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak and the Right Honourable George Osborne, then Chancellor of the Exchequer, the world-leading facility sits on an 80–acre regenerated brownfield site adjacent to the Etihad Stadium and is home to our men’s and women’s senior teams and boys’ and girls’ academies.

Ten years on, the CFA continues to deliver on the original vision of the Club’s ownership to provide a world-class and sustainable facility where football talent would be nurtured by the best staff and coaching programmes, whilst playing an integral role in the regeneration of the local area and supporting its community.

Central to the design of the CFA was that it would be home to all Manchester City’s teams – from the boys’ and girls’ academies to the men’s and women’s senior teams – who would benefit from a shared operation and culture.

The Manchester City Academy has become an established talent pipeline, developing 40 players for the men’s senior team, including Phil Foden and Rico Lewis, whilst four of the current women’s squad are graduates of the girls’ academy.

Since its opening, the CFA has also generated fees up to £300million in player sales and the Academy’s impact extends beyond Manchester City and is evident across the English football pyramid and international leagues.

In England, seven Premier League sides and 12 Championship teams currently feature a player from the Academy. Graduates including Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers, Tommy Doyle and James Trafford are among the notable names who have developed their talents at the CFA.

Globally, players including Jeremie Frimpong, Brahim Diaz and Samuel Edozie have featured for first-tier clubs in more than 24 countries.

CFA graduates have also collectively played over 24,000 minutes for their senior national teams over the last 10 years, demonstrating the CFA’s impact beyond club football.

The CFA is at the heart of the regeneration of East Manchester, which is underpinned by the economic, environmental and social benefits that the facility has on the local area and its people.

Over the last 10 years, the Alex Williams Community Pitch and indoor pitch have hosted more than 26,000 hours of community sessions to support the lives of local people through the power of football and more than 250 jobs have been created.

The site remains a world-leading facility today due to continued evolution and investment with plans submitted for a £10 million purpose-built women’s training facility and work has begun on the installation of 10,500 solar panels which will see the CFA become one of the largest producers of self-supplied renewable energy in world football.
