Tottenham Hotspur crashed to a defeat against Chelsea in the Premier League yesterday.
Despite going 2-0 up, they ended up losing the game 4-3. The fans will be thoroughly disappointed with the performance of the players.
Manager Ange Postecoglou revealed during the post-match presser that his players performed well, but they couldn’t get the result. Former Liverpool defender and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has now slammed the manager for his comments.
Carragher revealed that the comments from the Spurs manager do not make sense after a defeat. He also added that Postecoglou is quite dogmatic when it comes to his style of football and he needs to change, depending on the situation and opposition.
Tottenham have employed a free-flowing attacking brand of football, but they will have to be more flexible. Carragher believes that they will need to change their style and be more flexible if Postecoglou wants to hold onto his job.
“Ange said how well they played. I can’t imagine any Liverpool manager I played for and we conceded four in a game would say in the interview we played well,” he told via Football London.
“The game-state dictates how you play, not all the time but if you go away to a tough away ground you shouldn’t play the same way as you do against a team at the bottom. There’s this idea of playing a pure game and the Tottenham fans singing ‘we’ve got our Tottenham back’ but you won’t win anything, you won’t challenge.
“I wake up every morning hoping the sun is shining, so I can put some shorts and a t-shirt on but if it’s raining, you put your coat on. You can’t have this idea about playing one way, it won’t work. If it doesn’t change, he won’t be here next season.”

Tottenham have been quite mediocre so far this season and it will be interesting to see if they can put together a winning run now. They will be desperate for Champions League qualification and Postecoglou will be under a lot of pressure.
He needs to deliver results in order to hold onto his job and the club hierarchy is unlikely to be patient with him if he continues to falter after significant backing in the transfer market.
