“It’s about the way” – Maresca shares what impressed him about Jadon Sancho against Tottenham

Enzo Maresca was full of praise for Jadon Sancho following Chelsea’s comeback win against Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.

The Blues made it four Premier League wins in a row after an amazing 4-3 win against their rivals having been 2-0 down in the first 12 minutes.

Jadon Sancho pulled one back in the first half with a brilliant strike that impressed Paul Merson, but the Blues would have to wait until the second half to turn the game around with two Cole Palmer penalties, the second an audacious Panenka and a great strike from Enzo Fernandez.

Sancho arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer on an initial loan deal from Manchester United, which will become permanent next summer for in the region of £25m.

The England international has made an impressive start to life at Chelsea and after coming off the bench and scoring his first goal for the club on Wednesday night he was back in the starting line-up against Spurs with Maresca giving him the nod over Noni Madueke.

Sancho scored for the second game running and put in another impressive overall performance and now has three assists and two goals in nine Premier League appearances, with the 24-year-old finding his feet at Stamford Bridge.

Maresca was delighted with Sancho and explained after the game what had impressed him most about the England international’s performance.

“[I’m impressed] but not only with him on the ball, also the way he is defending,” he said as cited on X.com.

“Him, Pedro Neto, it is not just about goals and assists, it’s about the way they work off the ball.”

Sancho was accused of being lazy during his time at United, but he looks anything but that at Chelsea and is really working hard for the team and thriving.

He will more than likely be given the night off on Thursday when Chelsea make the long trip to Kazakhstan to take on Astana in the Conference League, before hosting Brentford on Sunday evening.
