Over the last month or so, FC Barcelona have squandered almost all of their lead that they had accumulated over their two main rivals for the La Liga title, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
In their last five games, the Blaugranes have only been able to get five points, and as the results have stopped coming, the team’s performances on the pitch have also been declining.
However, according to SPORT, although things have not yet reached an alarming state at the club, the Blaugranes are still worried about the fact that their team has lost control, and is not playing as well as it was some weeks ago.
Furthermore, confidence in Hansi Flick is still high, and although the focus is no longer just on individual errors, it currently is still more on players than on the coach.
Barcelona are still on top of the La Liga table and a win against Borussia Dortmund will virtually confirm their qualification to the next round of the UEFA Champions League.
But there is also no denying the decline in the team’s performances, not only in terms of results but also in other important aspects like control, precision, and concentration.
The Catalans have also pondered on the possible causes leading to this decline in performances, and one of the problems they have identified is psychological, as they believe the team relaxed after their wins against Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, which is not rare for a young team. However, this problem can be solved by itself as rival teams can get them out of their slump by bringing them back to the ground.
Another problem Barcelona have identified is the relative lack of experience in the squad, as more experienced players could have avoided the defeat against Real Betis by slowing down the pace of the game.
Similarly, the more experienced players like Lewandowski, Raphinha, Kounde, and Olmo themselves are suffering from a decline in their performances.
Lastly, the Blaugranes also understand that these important players have had very little rest, which lowers their spark and ability to make good decisions during games. This fatigue also makes it difficult for them to apply the high pressure that Flick demands from his team.
The coming few days can help in this regard as Araujo and Christensen are nearing their returns from injuries, and players like Gavi, Frenkie, and Olmo will also get back to their best shape.
