Ruben Amorim told Man Utd ‘couldn’t handle’ one thing vs Nottingham Forest, he has ‘hard season’ ahead of him

Ruben Amorim has been warned that Manchester United showed a key weakness against Nottingham Forest in their shock 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The 39-year-old Manchester United manager has overseen back-to-back Premier League defeats since his arrival from Sporting CP in November.

Arsenal inflicted a 2-0 defeat on the Red Devils at the Emirates last week ahead of Nottingham Forest arriving at Old Trafford for their Premier League clash.

Forest broke the deadlock early against United after Nikola Milenkovic fired a header past Andre Onana from a corner only two minutes into the match.

Rasmus Hojlund cancelled out Nikola Milenkovic’s opener in the first half and United and Forest went into the break with a 1-1 scoreline.

However, Nuno Espirito Santo’s men restored their advantage only two minutes after the break thanks to Andre Onana’s howler against Morgan Gibbs-White’s strike.

Chris Wood netted Forest’s third with a header before Bruno Fernandes pulled one back for United, but Ruben Amorim’s side were unable to find an equaliser.

Frank Leboeuf on Man Utd weakness

Manchester United are now 13th in the Premier League table and are eight points adrift from the top four following the Nottingham Forest defeat.

Ruben Amorim faces an uphill battle in turning around United’s 2024-25 campaign and trying to remain in the race for Champions League football.

Speaking on ESPN, Frank Leboeuf admitted that United did not have the right “shape” after the break in their 3-2 defeat to Forest at Old Trafford.

The former Chelsea and Strasbourg player added that a key weakness for Amorim’s men was that there lack of physicality and how they “couldn’t handle the pressure.”

“The second half they were not in good shape,” Leboeuf said.

“They are not strong enough physically. They couldn’t handle the pressure, even against Nottingham Forest, with all due respect.

“It’s going to be a hard season. It may be another hard season after this one, because they are going to have to change players.”

Leboeuf talks Amorim and Man Utd

United will now turn their attention to their European campaign on Thursday, with the Red Devils to travel away to face Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League.

Leboeuf argued that he wasn’t a fan of how Amorim “started to change everything” against Forest after United conceded twice at Old Trafford.

“What I didn’t like from Ruben Amorim today was as soon as they conceded two goals, he started to change everything,” he continued.

“Sometimes you have to make the players suffer. Use their pride in order to come back.

“He changed the team and the shape. I didn’t like that because you don’t force the players to react.

“Those players are maybe limited but they can change things. He’s trying to find solutions but it’s going to be hard because some of these players are not good enough to play for Manchester United.”
