‘I’m starting to…’: What Moyes has said about returning to management as O’Neil faces test to…

Wolves are preparing for their crucial clash with West Ham United at the London Stadium.

Matchday 15 of the Premier League season brings a thriller in east London as both Gary O’Neil and Julen Lopetegui feel the pressure.

West Ham decided to keep Lopetegui in charge to face Wolves amid the Hammers’ dreary start to the campaign.

Wolves handed O’Neil the chance to redeem himself against West Ham, making Monday night’s showdown quite the spectacle.

What David Moyes has said about a return to management

The fixture could very well be O’Neil’s last at Wolves as the manager walks on thin ice heading into week 15.

Wolves sit down in 19th, with little room for additional error as the relegation zone takes shape ahead of the festive period.

It’s understood that if the Englishman were to be sacked, Wolves want a replacement for O’Neil to come in straight away, with several possible candidates aired.

While Sergio Conceicao is out of the race to become Wolves manager, some believe that a figure closer to home could be a strong possibility.

David Moyes’ strengths could help the Old Gold to get back on track, which is interesting considering that the former West Ham boss is currently out of work.

It was only in November that Moyes opened up about his future when speaking on the Stick To Football podcast, where he hinted at a possible return.

“No case of that [wanting to get back into management] at all, but I’m starting to think about it,” Moyes admitted.

“For three months I’ve been great, because I wanted the time off. It doesn’t sound a lot to say you’ve had 60 games last year, but when you’re the manager and you’re coming back on a Thursday night from Belgium or France, you’re saying, ‘My goodness, I’ve got to get the team prepared – I’ve got to get all the work done’.

“There might be debriefs, then you’re trying to get them ready for a Premier League game. I found that amount of workload to be really difficult in the last three years, but it was a pleasure to be in that situation.”

While Moyes is relishing having some time on his hands, it’s clear that the Scotsman desires to get back amongst the chaos, with Wolves able to offer just that.

Wolves vs West Ham will be decisive for Gary O’Neil

Moyes will surely be watching his former club face Wolves on Monday night, with the two sides a host of teams who could soon offer managerial vacancies.

Speaking on talkSPORT [05/12/24], pundit Jamie O’Hara branded Wolves’ meeting with West Ham as ‘El Sackico’, adding fuel to the fire of the must-win duel.

Lopetegui is fighting for his future in the capital while Wolves fans have lost trust in O’Neil entirely, emphasising the importance of the clash.

Another defeat for Wolves would surely be the end of O’Neil’s journey at Molineux, as the Old Gold sit four points from safety going into the game.
