The January transfer window is over three weeks away from opening, with Liverpool set to be big spenders in the market.
Kenan Yildiz has again emerged as a target for Liverpool with the Reds looking at as many as four positions to strengthen in 2025, with some potentially big moves on the cards for the Premier League leaders.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold still rumoured with a move to Real Madrid, there could also be some huge outgoings at Anfield if the right offers come in for certain players, with Jamie Carragher already suggesting that Darwin Nunez could leave Liverpool.
Yet one player linked with a move to Liverpool could be about to miss out on a transfer due to injury.

Liverpool target Martin Zubimendi picks up ‘serious’ injury for Real Sociedad
Speaking to the press after Real Soceidad’s 3-0 win away to Leganes, manager Imanol Alguacil revealed that midfielder Martin Zubimendi might have picked up a ‘serious’ injury after requesting to come off for the Basque side.
Alguacil told reporters: “Aihen and Zubimendi are two players who have to have something serious to ask to come off, so we’ll see what happens. As for Sergio [Gomez], I think his was more of a momentary joke.”
Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for Zubimendi this year, with the midfielder rejecting the chance to make the switch to Anfield in the summer to remain at his boyhood club, a decision the Spanish international is now regretting, if reports are to be believed.
Yet with Zubimendi now injured, the chances of a January transfer now look over before rumours could have really restarted heading into 2025, with Liverpool now back to the drawing board when it comes to signing a new central midfielder.

Liverpool need to fully move on from Zubimendi next year
Zubimendi rejecting Liverpool to remain at Sociedad was an embarrassing episode for the Reds, yet the decision turned out to be not too damaging for the Anfield side given how incredible the midfield has been this season under Arne Slot.
And with Zubimendi potentially out injured for some time, Liverpool should use this window to fully move on from the Spanish international and to establish their interest in new midfield targets for the January window.
Indeed, the time to sign Zubimendi has well and truly passed, and Liverpool know they have the leverage and the appeal to find the midfield signing of their dreams if they can act quickly enough heading into January.
