‘I couldn’t believe’–Jamie Carragher‘astonished’by major incident in Spurs defeat against Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur lost 4-3 against Chelsea in the Premier League in a frantic London derby clash on Sunday.

Spurs have won only once in their last seven games in all competitions, and the pressure is mounting on manager Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham went 2-0 up inside the opening 15 minutes and yet ended up on the losing side once again against their bitter London rivals.

However, the outcome of the game could have been different if Chelsea had gone down to ten men early in the game.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher claimed Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo should have picked up a red card for his foul on Pape Matar Sarr.

Caicedo made a reckless challenge on the Spurs midfielder in the 33rd minute, catching him on the shin.

However, VAR reviewed the incident and gave Caicedo the benefit of the doubt, as they felt the challenge lacked ‘excessive force’.

Carragher said on Sky Sports: “It just seemed like the most obvious red card you would see.

“I can hear the VAR, and as soon he said the words, we looked at each other and were just astonished. I couldn’t believe.”

Poor decision from VAR, it could have changed the game

The referees usually do not want to dish out red cards easily, as they like to keep eleven players on the pitch, especially in a high-voltage derby game.

However, this decision has baffled everyone. It was a reckless tackle, and Caicedo should have been dismissed.

Spurs were very poor throughout the game, but they did create some very good opportunities to score as well.
