How new Mohamed Salah contract could effect Liverpool pursuit of Omar Marmoush

The ongoing discussion at Liverpool Football Club has become the drama surrounding the contract situations of three key players.

Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all well into their final year under contract with the club and are allowed to negotiate pre-contract agreements with overseas clubs, as soon as the clock strikes January 1st 2025.

Over the last twelve hours, there has been a promising new update from the reliable David Ornstein of The Athletic, on the future of Mohamed Salah.

Ornstein revealed that the Egyptian has now been handed an opening contract offer, two weeks on from his bombshell talks post-match at Southampton.

This comes following John Richardson of the Mirror reporting that Salah is ‘on the brink’ of a two-year contract extension.

Mohamed Salah is close to agreeing to a new two-year deal at Liverpool, according to The Mirror.

John Richardson writes: “Mo Salah is on the brink of signing a new two-year contract with Liverpool to end all doubts about his Anfield future.”

Here, we will discuss how a potential new contract could affect the pursuit of Salah’s international teammate, Omar Marmoush, amidst the speculation linking the Eintracht Frankfurt forward with a future move to Anfield.

Omar Marmoush has become a hot topic in the Bundesliga this season.

Thirteen goals and seven assists in thirteen matches has seen the Egyptian forward see Mohamed Salah comparisons head his way.

Most recently, Marmoush became the first player to level with Salah in goal contributions for the season back in November and this spearheaded his current club, Eintracht Frankfurt, to entice themselves into the transfer talk between Marmoush and Liverpool.

The club retweeted a post via X that displayed Marmoush join Salah in scoring ten goals and ten assists for the 2024-25 campaign, captioning their quoted tweet with, “Things we love to see @LFC”, adding fuel to the fire.

🚨Only three players in Europe have reached 10 goals and 10 assists across all competitions this season… and two are Egyptian! 🤯

Mohamed Salah’s proposed new deal could just give Omar Marmoush the incentive to make the switch, given he’d be guaranteed playing time alongside his footballing idol for club, as well as country.

When asked on the comparisons between himself and Marmoush, Salah replied:

“I think he has great potential. He is an important player for his team and the national team. I want to stop making comparisons to make his life easier.”

“I want people to stop comparing him to me, saying he will be the new Salah and will do what I did and surpass it.”

“Let him live his experience and be happy with it. Comparisons will not benefit him. Let him do something of his own, and in his own direction, away from my career.”

We believe that Marmoush would be best suited to the number nine position at Liverpool, which would allow him to play alongside his international teammate, although the only stumbling block is the plethora of forward options that already shape up Arne Slot’s attack.

Darwin Nunez seems to be the first-choice number nine, but will see his position challenged by a returning Diogo Jota, once the Portuguese is fit and available for selection again.

Wide options such as Salah, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa would automatically rule out a move for Marmoush for the foreseeable.

A move for Omar Marmoush may only be necessary if one forward was to leave the club, and with Mohamed Salah in key discussions over a new contract, it certainly won’t be the Egyptian King being shifted to make way for the Eintracht Frankfurt attacker.

Salah’s new deal at Liverpool could bring an end to the Omar Marmoush hype-train amongst the Liverpool fanbase.

As of right now, a move to sign Marmoush seems out of the question, but a way out for one attacker could spell a way in for the international teammates to reignite at club level.

The rumour mill will almost certainly heat up throughout Christmas and into the January transfer window, but we believe that talk of Marmoush to Liverpool will be laid to rest, if Mohamed Salah delights every supporter and agrees to put pen-to-paper on a contract extension with Liverpool.
