In a surprising turn of events, recent reports have suggested that Frenkie de Jong no longer wants to remain at Barcelona.
In fact, according to Gabriel Sans’s report in Mundo Deportivo, it has come to light that the Dutch midfielder is seeking a move away from the club, and several top clubs are already looking to secure his services.
In that regard, the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain are all reportedly keen on signing the former Ajax player, as they believe Barcelona are open to letting him go.
What is Barcelona’s stance?
De Jong’s future at Barcelona has been uncertain for some time. He is currently under contract until 2026, and initially, the club had plans to extend his deal.
However, things have shifted dramatically, and Barcelona are now considering selling him, with a move likely to take place in the summer of 2025.

Interestingly, there are two main factors driving Barcelona’s change in stance regarding De Jong. Firstly, his salary has become a significant financial burden for the club.
With Barcelona still dealing with financial difficulties, selling the midfielder could bring in much-needed funds to ease their situation.
The second factor is the emergence of younger talent in the midfield, as players like Marc Casado, Marc Bernal, and even Gavi have stepped up, filling the void left by De Jong and reducing his importance in the squad.
Despite his immense talent, De Jong has struggled with injuries during his time at Barcelona, which may impact the decisions of potential suitors.
It remains to be seen which club will be willing to take the risk and make a move for the player. As of now, Barcelona is prepared to part ways with him, making his potential departure an ongoing story to watch as the transfer window approaches.
