Tottenham captain Son Heung-min has placed the responsibility for his side's defeat to Chelsea upon his own shoulders.

Spurs took a 2-0 lead over their London rivals before seeing the Blues come back to claim a 4-3 win. Ange Postecoglou's side gave away two penalties as they gave up their two-goal advantage and the Lilywhites slipped into the bottom half of the table, seven points off the Premier League's top four.

Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr each produced a wreckless challenge in their own area after Jadon Sancho had already reduced Spurs' lead earned through Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski. Cole Palmer dispatched from the spot either side of Enzo Fernandez's goal to ensure Son's stoppage time strike was only a consolation.

Son was frustrated with the errors that saw his side fall to defeat but was keen to take responsibility himself. The South Korean star believes he should have been more clinical too.

"It's very disappointing," Son said following the game. "I don't know what to say at the moment.

"We made such a good game in the first half an hour and then we conceded their goals, very sloppy. We're very sorry for the team. We can't concede a goal like this, especially inside the box, we can't dive in, in this kind of situation.

"We can stay here all day talking about the mistakes but I’d rather blame me about the chance and as a leader I will definitely take this blame."

It was Bissouma and Sarr who drew the ire of pundits in post-match anaylsis however. Jamie Carragher was in disbelief with the former's foul

"Some of the things Tottenham players do is absolutely ridiculous," he said. It's a certain penalty. That is absolutely braindead. Who'd be a manager?"

Ex-Spurs midfielder Jamie Redknapp said: "Caicedo when he went central just started to run the game. Bissouma had 27 seconds of madness.

"He's not showing enough pace to get back in there. He dives into a ridiculous tackle. Absolutely ridiculous."

"You know how skilful he [Palmer] is,' he added on Sarr's foul. "That is so clumsy, that is so bad because this was the moment that cost them the game. Ridiculous challenge, you just cost your team.

Spurs boss Postecoglou was left frustrated too. "Both penalties were poor on our behalf," he said.

"They're self-inflicted and unnecessary challenges. We've given them two goals away for no reason and given ourselves a mountain to climb which proved too hard."
