Manchester City fans continue to get deeply uncomfortable watching Chelsea play, as they know there’s a high chance that Cole Palmer will shine.
Palmer left the Etihad Stadium in the summer of 2023, joining Chelsea in a £42.5 million transfer deal.
That was seen as a great sale by City at the time. But fast forward 18 months or so, and it’s clear the Blues snagged a major bargain.
Palmer has been sensational since quitting City for Chelsea, and is so often their main man – and that was the case again yesterday as Chelsea came from behind to beat Tottenham Hotspur.
Chelsea were 2-0 down, but a brilliant Palmer-inspired second-half display saw them turn the game around.
Palmer scored twice from the penalty spot, and also grabbed an assist for Enzo Fernandez.

It has been another disappointing weekend for City fans, with the team dropping points against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
City could not close the gap on Liverpool in the way they would have liked, after the Reds’ game with Everton was called off.
And the weekend was made just that bit worse for fans when on Sunday, Palmer again played a starring role for Chelsea in their 4-2 in over Spurs.
It was a typically entertaining game between the two London clubs, and it was Chelsea who ran out winners to further emphasise their Premier League title credential, despite Enzo Maresca dismissing those suggestions.
Palmer scored twice from the penalty spot, including one brilliant Panenka.
He also saw one shot deflect into the path of Enzo Fernandez to hand him an assist.
In a new statistic, Palmer has now chalked up 50 goal contributions for Chelsea, managing to reach that tally in just 48 appearances.
Only City’s Erling Haaland, Andy Cole and Mo Salah have managed to get to 50 Premier League goal contributions quicker.
Why Cole Palmer left Man City
Palmer has certainly been an uncomfortable watch for City fans since he left the club.
It just seems that he has a big influence every time he takes to the field for Chelsea – and it’s great to see him thriving and expressing his talent, as much as it is frustrating given he was a City player.
Pep Guardiola had claimed Palmer had wanted to leave the club for a couple of years.
Cole Palmer record for Chelsea (2023-present)
Appearances – 62
Goals – 36
Assists – 21
Palmer is on record as saying he didn’t want to leave Man City, and that he was actually just keen to go on loan.
Guardiola has claimed before that he did offer Palmer more game time just before he decided to leave. But seemingly Palmer wasn’t willing to stick around to find out if that would be the case.
