Man Utd fans will have fond memories of the winger who won the Champions League in his debut season.

Manchester United great Luis Nani has announced his retirement from professional football in an emotional statement.

The 38-year-old took to social media on Sunday to confirm his decision, bringing to an end an illustrious career that almost lasted 20 years.

Nani began his professional career with Sporting back in 2005, before he moved to Old Trafford two years later. The Portuguese winger won the Premier League and Champions League during his debut season, scoring United's fifth penalty in their shootout victory against Chelsea in Moscow.

In all, he would win four Premier League titles for Sir Alex Ferguson's side, and also added the Club World Cup and three League Cup triumphs to his collection. He was named Manchester United Players' Player of the Year for the 2010/11 season and was also included in the PFA Team of the Year.

Nani would go on to feature for Fenerbahce, Valencia, Lazio, Orlando City, Venezia, Melbourne Victory, Adana Demirspor, and Estrela Amadora, and was part of the Portugal side that won the European Championship in 2016.

"The time has come to say goodbye, I have decided to finish my career as a professional player," Nani wrote online. "It’s been an amazing ride and I wanted to thank every single person who has helped me and supported me through the highs and lows during a career which lasted over 20 years and gave me so many unforgettable memories. Time to turn a new leaf and focus on new goals and dreams. See you soon!”
