‘Special player’: Jamie Carragher thinks Cole Palmer is reaching the levels of ‘world-class’ Chelsea legend

As Chelsea completed a sensational turnaround victory against arch-rivals Tottenham, all the attention revolved around one man yet again.

Cole Palmer found the net twice from the spot, whilst also playing a key role in Enzo Fernandez’s goal that put the Blues ahead in the second half.

The manner of his second penalty was a great showcase of both his class and confidence. Enzo Maresca was in awe at the Panenka that put the Blues out of sight.

The England international raced to 50 league goal contributions for Chelsea yesterday, being one of the quickest players to do so for a Premier League side.

Cole Palmer compared to Eden Hazard by Jamie Carragher

Pundits on Sky Sports were purring about Palmer’s performance. Jamie Redknapp loved Palmer’s display, while Jamie Carragher was frequently heard praising the England international on commentary.

It is difficult not to draw comparisons between the former Manchester City man and some of the best to ever feature for the Blues, including club legend Eden Hazard.

Carragher said after the London derby yesterday that what Palmer is doing right now is already matching the peaks of what the Belgian did at Stamford Bridge.

He said to Sky Sports: “Cole Palmer is on the same level as Eden Hazard and that came over four or five years. If he takes Chelsea to a title then he’d go down as one of their greatest ever players if he keeps doing what he’s doing. He’s a special player.”

Palmer is at an age where he will have been able to watch the best of Hazard at Chelsea, and it seems he is a huge fan of his work.

The current star named the winger as the one player he would love to have played with if he had the chance at Stamford Bridge.

When asked that question, he said: “Hazard. I think we’re different, but yeah, I try and be exciting like Hazard.”

For many, it would take a lot to top the impact the Belgian has had at Chelsea. The likes of Rio Ferdinand described Hazard as ‘world-class’ when he was with the Blues.

Nevertheless, Palmer is on his way to club legend status, and his Chelsea side are threatening to do something very special under Enzo Maresca.
