Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala’s story is an interesting one. Born in Germany and moving to England to play football, such a jump would take some time getting used to. Musiala was fortunate enough to come across Levi Colwill in the Southampton reserves, who helped him learn English and get him acclimatized to the atmosphere there.

“It’s funny actually because one of the first friends I made when I came to England was Levi Colwill”, Musiala recalled (via Players’ Tribune). “I showed up on the first day of training at Southampton’s academy, and I was speaking 99% German. But you know how football is … it’s the universal language.”

Musiala’s first spoken dialogue to Colwill was a mix of English and a bit of German. They since became close (even sharing the exact same birthday: 26 February 2003), and both lads moved to Chelsea FC academy not long after. Musiala then immortalized his first friendship with a photo, something you’ll learn more about in the next part. Musiala was digging through old photos and traced his football career back to one image.

“Do you ever sit around your house and you get to that advanced stage of chilling where you start scrolling through your camera roll? But I mean deep in the scroll. Back to the very beginning. I love to do that, because it’s like seeing the movie of your life play in reverse.”

To be continued.
