Inter have lost just five of their last 68 matches since they lost in the Champions League final against Man City in 2023.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
One of Inter’s most bitter defeats in recent memory came in the Champions League final for the 2022-23 season.
Naturally, getting that far and falling at the final hurdle was always going to be tough.
And it was made all the more so by the fact that Inter were by no means outplayed by City.
Against the Premier League juggernauts and heavy favourites, Inter succumbed to just a 0-1 defeat.
The Nerazzurri largely restricted the Cityzens but could not prevent the one telling chance. And at the other end, they had glorious chances to equalize late in the match.
Just 5 Defeats In 68 For Inter Since UCL Final Loss Vs Man City
But that heartbreak against City just seemed to galvanize Inter.
Last season, the Nerazzurri brushed off the prior campaign’s shaky league form to win the Serie A title in dominant fashion.
Inter suffered just two losses in the league all season. And curiously, both came against Sassuolo – one in a match where the Nerazzurri had already clinched the title.
The Neroverdi permanently confirmed their status as Inter’s “bogey team” by taking six points off the Nerazzurri in a season where they themselves suffered relegation.
Meanwhile, there was more Champions League disappointment for Inter last season.
The Nerazzurri lost away to Atletico Madrid in a round of sixteen second leg that saw them squander a two-goal cushion and eventually crash out on penalties.
Meanwhile, Inter had also suffered an extra time loss to Bologna in the Coppa Italia round of sixteen last December.
And this season, Inter have lost just once. But it was a defeat that stung – against city rivals AC Milan in the derby.
