Virgil van Dijk issued with contract warning after Liverpool man snubbed offer with talks…

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has been told there is nowhere else that he would enjoy playing as much as Anfield as discussions continue about extending his contract beyond the end of the season.

The same can be said of Mohamed Salah with Saudi Arabian interest in the forward remaining but Merseyside clearly the best place for him. Right now, Salah is arguably the best player in the world.

"I definitely would love them both to stay," former Reds winger Ryan Babel told Instant Casino. "I do believe, when it comes to Virgil, I believe he is going to stay. I think for him, where does he want to go after Liverpool?

"You could argue Real Madrid, but he would not go to Man City. He would not go to Arsenal. Definitely not to Man United. For Virgil, I think he would love to keep playing for Liverpool. He’s the club captain and is such an iconic player at the club. His quality isn’t declining — he has a lot to offer."

The Athletic reported last week that Van Dijk had rejected the opening offer placed on the table to him with negotiations continuing. There has never been any suggestion that the Dutchman wants to move on, and talks are expected to continue to find a resolution between the two parties.

And then over the weekend, The Athletic also revealed that an opening offer had been sent to the representatives of Salah. Only a couple of weeks ago, he expressed his disappointment that nothing had been offered to him while speaking to reporters in Southampton.

Liverpool.com says: Tying down both players is clearly the right thing to do. With negotiations now at the point when formal offers are supposedly being tabled, that has to be a good sign in terms of progress. It was always going to be a slow process, with sporting director Richard Hughes inheriting a tricky situation when he arrived from Bournemouth in the summer.
