Barcelona captain could leave for PSG in winter transfer window – Report

Since his appointment as the head coach of FC Barcelona, Hansi Flick has been able to get the best out of several stars of the Blaugrana team.

This is particularly the case with the likes of Inigo Martinez and Raphinha, who both are performing at a level significantly higher than the one they offered in the last season.

Both of these players have become essential under Hansi Flick, as also has Marc Casado who has taken a huge leap this season to become the starting midfield pivot for the Blaugrana team.

However, there is also a player who has seen his importance in the team decline significantly this season, i.e., Frenkie de Jong.

It has been several weeks since the Dutchman returned from the serious ankle injury that kept him on the sidelines for more than 5 months, but his performances have not really been up to the standard expected of the Dutch midfielder.

Frenkie has shown clear signs of a lack of confidence, and his mistakes have directly cost Barcelona in some of the last few matches. This was particularly the case in the last match against Real Betis, as it was he who gave away the penalty which resulted in the host team’s first goal on the night

This sporting situation, coupled with his already precarious contractual situation, makes his future at the Catalan club highly uncertain.

In fact, Fichajes reports that the Dutchman can leave Barcelona as soon as the coming January, as Paris Saint Germain are looking to incorporate him into their team and have Frenkie de Jong as one of their priority targets for the upcoming winter window.

Luis Enrique, who is very familiar with the player, is also eager to make this move happen and could play a key role in persuading him to join him in France.

Frenkie might be tempted to join a team where the coach values his talent, while a big offer from PSG can also tempt Barcelona to part ways with him.

In fact, the Catalans are already clear that they will even allow their captain to leave for free if he does not accept a renewal before the end of this season, but a move in January still looks unlikely.
