On Sunday night, news emerged that Liverpool had made an official contract offer to Mohamed Salah,
The 32-year-old forward, who has been in scintillating form with 15 goals and 12 assists in 21 appearances this season, could yet extend his stay at Anfield beyond 2025.
David Ornstein, who reported the news, also asserted that the club was also engaged in talks with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The length of the contract had been one of the stumbling blocks in negotiations, with Salah’s agent reportedly pushing for a three-year deal while Liverpool preferred a one-year extension1
However, a compromise may be reached with Ornstein reporting that ‘despite a growing belief around Anfield that both players [Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk] will stay, at present there is no certainty.’
With January approaching, Liverpool face increasing pressure to secure these deals, as all three players would be eligible to discuss pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs from the new year
Now a teammate of the endangered trio has spoken up on the matter.
Alexis Mac Allister makes Liverpool contract call
Alexis Mac Allister has urged the club to close the talks and provide Mohamed Salah with a new contract.
Speaking to Spanish outlet AS, Liverpool’s No.10 hopes that he can stay and wants the talks to come to a successful conclusion:
“He inspires us a lot, on and off the field. He is an example of work and dedication, always seeking to give his best. He is a very hard-working person and gives everything.”
“I hope he can stay at Liverpool next year. I want the negotiations to be successful. He seems happy here; he is a club legend. It would be ideal if he could finish his career here, but these are very personal decisions,” Mac Allister explained as quoted by Sport Witness.
When quizzed on the other two endangered stars, the Argentinan hit out at detractors of Trent Alexander-Arnold as well, saying:
“Yes, hopefully Trent and Virgil can stay with us along with Salah,” he added.
“Alexander-Arnold has enormous quality. I’ve always said that he was criticised for his defensive role, but I have no doubt that both in defence and attack he is a differential player. Like Salah, he is in negotiations and hopefully he can stay in the team.”
