West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui seemed to have his job saved a couple of weeks ago with a massive 2-0 win over Newcastle, but that optimism was short-lived after losses to Arsenal and Leicester City.
While there is no shame in losing to one-time title contenders Arsenal, a 3-1 loss to Leicester City is untenable, and since it came against a relegation side coached by a new manager in first-time coach Ruud van Nistelrooy, Lopetegui’s defeat looked that much worse.
Lopetegui and West Ham will face the Spanish manager’s former employers on Monday night in a must-win game, as Wolve are currently in the relegation places while West Ham themselves are only a few points higher from the relegation battle.
As Lopetegui faces more pressure on his job, West Ham continue to be linked to new names at the manager position, and the latest one is arguably the biggest yet in terms of past achievements.
[According to a report from TalkSPORT’s Ciaran Wiseman and Alex Crook](https://talksport.com/football/2362081/west-ham-manager-julen-lopetegui-max-allegri/), West Ham have actually begun to hold talks with former Juventus manager Max Allegri.
The former Champions League Finalist joins a shortlist of managers that includes Graham Potter, Erik ten Hag, and another former Champions League Finalist in Edin Terzic.
These managers have coached some of Europe’s most elite clubs including Chelsea, Juventus, AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, and Manchester United. Allegri, though, is the only one who has won a league title in a top-five league.
And Allegri, despite his failings at Juventus in his second stint that led to him getting fired, won Serie A year after year. Allegri is a six-time champion of Serie A as both AC Milan (one) and Juve (five in a row) coach.
Allegri plays a very plodding, defensive style of football that frustrated Juventus fans last season, so he is unlikely to fit a Premier League side that is more of a long-term project and aspires to play attacking football that is both effective and aesthetic.
