Adam Wharton is set to become one of the most-wanted and hyped youngsters next summer with Arsenal and Manchester City both interested clubs.
The 20-year-old had joined Crystal Palace from Blackburn just a couple of months ago but already, the defensive midfielder is catching eyeballs. Last season, he showed his worth in just 16 games for the Eagles however, Wharton is yet to showcase a similar from this campaign.
The CDM has featured in only 8 Premier League games and he is currently recovering from a groin injury. His impact might not be too prominent this time around but thankfully, his hype has not died down with two of the biggest clubs interested in signing him.
Which move is Adam Wharton likely to choose next year?
Amidst a midfield crisis, Manchester City are planning to sign the midfielder during the January transfer window but Adam Wharton has made it clear that he does not wish to leave Crystal Palace during the middle of the season.
Palace have recently held talks with the player’s representatives and they have assured the club that Wharton does not want to leave at the start of the new year.
This is a big sigh of relief however, an exit next summer is very much on the cards and at the moment, a move to Arsenal looks much more logical for the English youngster.
Man City might be without Rodri and Mateo Kovacic and Kovacic will leave at the end of this season. However, once Rodri comes back, Adam Wharton will be the understudy to the Ballon d’Or winner. There will be a lot of interest in Rodri but there is no way Pep Guardiola will agree to sell the Spaniard.
At Arsenal, things will be massively different because Mikel Arteta will get rid of Thomas Partey and Jorginho at the end of this season and the Palace midfielder will have a very even fight with Mikel Merino.
Merino will try to claim the CDM spot next season but Adam Wharton is talented enough to keep Mikel on the bench. Mikel Merino is not a top-class talent which means the Palace midfielder can very easily become a regular starter under Mikel Arteta next season.
The 20-year-old is valued at €30 million and if he goes on to have a good season then Palace could try and secure a massive profit from his sale. His current contract expires in 2029 which means the Eagles can quote all sorts of crazy numbers.
Wharton’s commitment to the Crystal Palace cause is commendable but it will be very hard for a 20-year-old to reject offers from teams like Arsenal and Manchester City.
