He's not getting carried away.
Cole Palmer was asked whether Chelsea should be considered title contenders following their 4-3 win over Spurs on Sunday – and his trademark response is going viral.
The 22-year-old became the first player in Premier League history to score 12 consecutive spot kicks as Chelsea climbed to second in the table with victory against Ange Postecoglou's side.
No player in England's top flight has registered more goal involvements since the start of last season than Palmer, who has notched 50 since joining from Manchester City for a reported £40 million.
But he's not getting carried away as Chelsea continue to impress.
Speaking to Dutch outlet PlaySports after Sunday's full-time whistle, Palmer was asked if the Blues were title contenders. As you can see from the footage below, the conversation was short but sweet.
After he said "no" with a straight face, the reporter, clearly surprised by his admission, responded by saying: "Really?" but the England international nodded again.
Palmer then shrugged his shoulders when the interviewer mentioned Chelsea being four points behind current Premier League leaders Liverpool. "No... no we're not," he added.
The thing is; Chelsea are most definitely title contenders at this stage.
Not only are they unbeaten in their last six Premier League games but Enzo Maresca's side have won their three most recent games with an aggregate score of 10-2.
In total, the Blues have scored 57 times in 22 games across all competitions this season, which is seven more than they managed in the 2022/23 campaign.
But after their impressive 3-0 win over Aston Villa earlier this month, Maresca downplayed suggestions that his side could contend for the title.
"I think we are not ready to compete with Liverpool, Arsenal, and City for many reasons," he said. "We are not ready for that. But the good thing is that we are improving and hopefully very soon we can be there."
Palmer agreed. "Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal have been together for more than five years, whereas we’ve only been together for a season," he told Chelsea's official website.
"We just want to keep going and winning the games."
