A top ally of West Ham majority owner David Sullivan has responded to claims a potential comeback of the year is on the cards.
Julen Lopetegui could be taking charge of his last West Ham game on Monday night.
There’s no lack of irony as the Hammers welcome Lopetegui’s old club Wolves to the London Stadium.
Both Lopetegui and the man who replaced him at Molineux are the wrong result from being sacked.
West Ham have told Lopetegui he must win each of the next four games to survive.
With Bournemouth and Brighton up after Wolves, it’s easy to see why many Hammers fans feel he is a dead man walking.
A host of managers have been linked as replacements for Lopetegui.
Many top sources and journalists have made it clear West Ham were merely buying time by giving the Spaniard a stay of execution for Wolves.
MORE WEST HAM STORIES
Failure to win, against what is currently the worst team in the Premier League on form, will be curtains for Lopetegui as fans call for his sacking following the shambolic defeats to Arsenal and Leicester.
The list of potential candidates for what many see as an inevitable vacancy at West Ham is long.
From Graham Potter, Michael Carrick and Edin Terzic to Max Allegri, Sergio Conceicao and Thomas Frank.
Supporters have been debating who would be the best choice.
But none of the names has divided opinion quite like former manager David Moyes.

West Ham receive stunning message from Moyes
Moyes has been linked with a host of jobs since the start of the season including Everton, Leicester, Wolves and Crystal Palace.
The Scot has been an observer for UEFA while also doing some punditry and media work since his Hammers departure.
When previously asked whether he would consider a third term as West Ham manager, Moyes stated: “I don’t know” after pausing for thought.
Moyes sent a jaw-dropping message to West Ham chief David Sullivan at the weekend.
Top Scottish journalist Alan Nixon counts Moyes as one of his longest standing contacts in football.
When he was Hammers boss, Nixon regularly provided updates from inside the London Stadium.
He claimed Moyes has made it clear to Sullivan another return to West Ham is possible in the right circumstances.
Moyes is said to have now made himself ‘available for work but is happy to wait for the right opening’.
Now a Sullivan ally has responded to comeback of the year claims at West Ham after stunning message.
Nixon’s claim about Moyes has sparked fervent debate among Hammers fans.

Sullivan ally responds to Moyes return claims at West Ham
Moyes previously praised Sullivan for the fact he had no qualms picking up the phone to him to ask him to return despite ditching him for Manuel Pellegrini.
Many feel that proves Sullivan would do so again if he felt it was right for the club.
Moyes recently made it clear on The Overlap that he has no issues with Sullivan despite the contract situation which ultimately saw him leave West Ham at the end of last season.
The prospect of a third Moyes term would clearly not go down too well with some at West Ham, who wanted him out and a change of direction.
But there is a section of the fanbase who have been open to a third coming at the London Stadium.
And they argue it is ‘better the devil you know’ amid links to a host of other managers.
Now Sean Whetstone, a close confidant of majority owner Sullivan, has responded to the big Moyes claim.
The top Hammers source had three simple words, which he posted directly to Nixon.
“Never gonna happen,” Whetstone said on social media.
Moyes return ruled out and it’s good news for Steidten
Whetstone has his finger on the pulse more than most when it comes to the inside track at West Ham.
So this appears to completely rule out the prospect of Moyes riding in on his white horse to east London for a third time.
Had Moyes been in with a shout of coming back again, it would almost certainly have seen the end of technical director Tim Steidten.
The German is under pressure over the club’s failings this season having taken full control since Moyes’ departure.
The pair had a messy end to their difficult relationship.
Moyes recently criticised West Ham’s Steidten-led structure. So forcing those two together again was simply a non-starter.
