Moises Caicedo should have been sent off for his challenge on Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr, ex-FIFA referee Keith Hackett has said.
The Ecuador midfielder was involved in a huge flashpoint at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (8 December) when he appeared to go over the ball and catch Sarr on the shin.
Surprisingly, no action was taken and on-field referee Anthony Taylor was not asked to go and review the incident by the VAR for the game Jarred Gillett, who ruled there was no excessive force.
Tottenham went on to lose the game 4-3 having taken an early two-goal lead, with the Caicedo moment one of several huge talking points.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News after the incident, Hackett could not believe that the midfielder avoided a clear red card nor that Taylor was not asked to go and have a second look.

“It is difficult to understand why after a VAR review that Anthony Taylor the referee was not sent to the monitor to view what should have been a red card for Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo.
“Easy red card, for me.”
VAR controversy again at Tottenham v Chelsea
Speaking live on Sky Sports co-commentary for the game, Jamie Carragher asked “Am I missing something?”
That was a question that will be reflected among the Spurs fanbase, who will be at a loss to explain how Caicedo avoided punishment for a tackle that receives a red card 99 times out of a hundred.

It was just the cherry atop the cake on another dour afternoon for Spurs, who raced into a 2-0 lead after 11 minutes thanks to ex-Chelsea striker Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski but wound up losing 4-3 as Jadon Sancho, Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernandez struck back for title contenders Chelsea.
Still, you cannot help but wonder what might have happened had Taylor reached in his pocket to send Caidedo off. The fact that he didn’t played a huge part in the outcome of this result.
